How the Vapour Processing System Works
Collected vapours are supplied to a modified gas engine connected to a generator. A dedicated fuel management system controls the vapour supply and the addition of support fuel, such as natural gas or propane, to maintain stable combustion as vapour conditions change.
The engine converts the energy in the fuel mixture into mechanical power, which the generator converts into electricity. This electricity can be used on site. Heat recovery can be integrated where there is a suitable heating demand.
Vapour buffering and conditioning can be included to match intermittent loading operations or varying vapour conditions to the engine’s operating requirements. Exhaust gas treatment is selected to suit the vapour composition and project emission requirements.
Vapour Treatment for Storage and Loading Operations
The VPS can be applied to collected vapour streams from tank storage and the loading of road tankers, rail tank cars, barges and seagoing vessels.
Suitable applications include hydrocarbon and selected chemical vapours. Vapour composition, concentration, flow variations and contaminants determine the required configuration and any pretreatment.
Processing More Than 80 Different Product Vapours
The IPCO Power VPS can process more than 80 different product vapours, including gasoline, naphtha, benzene, toluene, xylene, acetone, methanol and MTBE.
This flexibility makes the system suitable for terminals and petrochemical facilities handling multiple products. Suitable mixtures of vapours can be treated in a single system while recovering energy as electricity and, optionally, useful heat.
The system configuration is selected according to vapour composition, concentration and flow, with pretreatment where required.
Configured for Your Installation
The VPS can operate as a standalone treatment system or be integrated with membrane separation or refrigerated vapour recovery. Depending on the application, the installation can include vapour buffering, conditioning, support fuel supply and heat recovery.

VOC Reduction with Energy Recovery
The IPCO Power VPS reduces VOC emissions by up to 99.9% while generating electricity. Electrical efficiency is 31%, with total energy recovery reaching up to 76% when useful heat recovery is included.
The electricity generated can be used by the terminal to reduce purchases from the grid. Recovered heat can be used for heating storage tanks, process applications or buildings.
Actual electricity and heat output depend on vapour composition, flow, support fuel use and operating conditions.
