Keep Fuel Homogeneous During Storage
Fuel can settle, stratify and form agglomerates during storage. Uneven tank contents can lead to inconsistent fuel supply, filter fouling and difficulties when the fuel is brought back into use.
The FID FuelGuard recirculates fuel through a mechanical homogenizer and returns it to the tank. Treatment breaks down fuel agglomerates and redistributes combustible components, helping maintain a more uniform fuel condition throughout storage and use.
Suitable applications include conventional marine fuels and biofuel blends, with the circulation arrangement selected for the tank and operating conditions.
How the FID FuelGuard Works
A dedicated pump circulates fuel from the tank through the homogenizer. Mechanical shear breaks down agglomerated fuel components, and the treated fuel is returned to the tank.
The circulation flow, treatment schedule and position of the suction and return connections determine how effectively the tank contents are reached. The system is configured around tank volume, tank geometry, fuel temperature and the required treatment time.
FuelGuard can be applied to bunker, settling or service tanks. Each installation is arranged to suit the purpose of the tank and the vessel’s or plant’s operating pattern.

Maintain Fuel Consistency and Recover Usable Fuel
Tank treatment helps keep combustible components dispersed and available for use. Where settling and agglomeration have made fuel difficult to handle, recirculation and homogenization can restore its usability.

Tank Treatment for Biofuel Blends
Biofuel blends bring additional variation in fuel behaviour during storage. FuelGuard provides ongoing physical conditioning through recirculation, helping maintain homogeneity and reduce the build-up of agglomerated material.
The treatment programme is selected for the actual fuel blend, storage period and tank conditions. Fuel sampling helps assess the condition of the stored fuel and the effect of treatment.
Planning a FuelGuard Installation
How is the circulation capacity selected?
Capacity is selected from the tank volume, fuel properties, tank arrangement and available treatment time. The suction and return positions are also important: a high pump flow alone does not ensure that all areas of the tank are effectively circulated.
Can FuelGuard make difficult-to-use fuel usable again?
Yes. When the problem is caused by settling, agglomeration or uneven distribution of combustible components, mechanical treatment can restore fuel handling and allow the fuel to be used again. Fuel samples and the observed operating problem help establish the treatment approach.
Does homogenization remove water from the tank?
Homogenization can disperse water into smaller droplets, but the water remains in the fuel unless it is removed through a separate process. Tank drainage, water monitoring and any downstream separation should therefore be considered when planning the treatment arrangement.
