FID Reducer – Sludge Reduction and Fuel Treatment Optimization

FID Reducer within the fuel system

Strategic Integration: The FID Reducer integrates directly into existing fuel treatment systems, improving sludge management and separator efficiency.

Addressing the Challenge: Sludge and Inefficiency in Fuel Systems

Fuel systems operating on heavy fuel oil often suffer from sludge buildup and inefficient fuel processing. These issues lead to increased maintenance, higher operating costs and reduced equipment lifetime. Traditional fuel treatment systems struggle to effectively separate contaminants, leaving operators with excessive sludge and operational bottlenecks.

The IPCO Power Solution: The FID Reducer

Image description

The FID Reducer is installed upstream of the centrifuge in the fuel treatment system. By reducing fuel droplet size and breaking down asphaltene agglomerations, the system improves the performance of separators and filters.

This enables operators to:

  • Improve contaminant removal
  • Extend centrifuge cleaning intervals
  • Reduce sludge generation by up to 80%

The result is a cleaner fuel system, lower maintenance requirements and improved operational efficiency.

How the FID Reducer Works

The FID Reducer uses IPCO Power’s mechanical homogenizer technology to break down asphaltene agglomerations into smaller and more uniform particles.

By reducing particle size, the system improves the separation of contaminants while allowing more usable fuel to pass through the centrifuge instead of being lost to sludge.

This process can recover up to 10% of asphaltene material as usable fuel, creating measurable efficiency gains in heavy fuel oil systems.

Reduction in Sludge Production

With the FID Reducer, operators typically achieve a 50–80% reduction in sludge generation. This significantly lowers sludge disposal costs and improves the overall efficiency of fuel treatment systems.

By reducing asphaltene agglomerations and improving fuel conditioning, the system helps maintain cleaner separators and longer maintenance intervals.
